ISNCSCI classification workbook

The International Standards Committee recently published an open access ISNCSCI Classification Workbook that includes 26 practice cases with detailed explanations of the correct classifications. These cases reinforce important ISNCSCI rules and definitions. Potentially challenging concepts from the 2019 ISNCSCI update, including revised definitions of the ZPPs and documentation of non-SCI conditions, are also reviewed. The workbook can serve as a valuable training tool to improve classification accuracy.

The dataset is also available in the Open Data Commons for Spinal Cord Injury ODC-SCI

The cases can also be reviewed here:

 "N0000N" sign
Motor function does not follow sensory function when determining the motor ZPPs
 Unilateral sensory ZPP
Half of the below level key muscles are graded 3 or better
Motor but no sensory ZPP in AIS D
Motor incomplete due to sparing of motor function more than 3 segments below the motor level
 Transition segments C4/5 with ZPP
No DAP, but sensory sacral sparing
Borderline between AIS C/D in a lumbar injury
 Sensory but no motor ZPP
Motor ZPP in AIS B injury
Motor level follows C3 sensory level
Optional muscle function to distingush between AIS B versus AIS C or D
 C2 already impaired
 AIS E
 Transition segments C4/C5 without ZPP
Motor ZPP length or zero in thoracic injury
Motor level follows sensory level even if C5 is graded as 5
 Above elow amputation
 Transradial amputation
 Brachial plexus injury
 Wrist sprain with pain
